Anita has a Masters of Applied Theatre (UVic, Canada) and Phd in Theatre (UNSW, Australia). She has a Bachelor of Arts (Drama) and Bachelor of Teaching (Deakin, Australia). She is a registered BCCT teacher and has taught in six countries. She has more than 25 years experience in performance, directing and education and is incredibly passionate about her craft.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Anita grew up in a large family where music and theatre was a big part of family life. She wrote and directed her first play in Grade 5 and from there never stopped participating in and loving theatre. She went to school in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and attended Deakin University to complete her Bachelor of Arts (Drama) and Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary). After graduating, she flew to the UK and taught Drama in secondary schools continuing for several years across Europe, Australia and New Zealand before immigrating to Canada in 2008.
She currently lives in the small ski town of Revelstoke in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. In 2014 she founded theatre company Flying Arrow Productions to offer programming in youth, senior and inter- generational theatre programming. In 2015 she began her Masters of Applied Theatre at the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Her masters culiminated in a site-specific theatre project at the Revelstoke Railway Museum. She began her PhD in 2017 at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia under the supervision of Professors Michael Balfour and Julie Dunn. In 2019 she transferred to UNSW (Sydney) to accompany Professor Balfour in his new position at UNSW and completed her PhD in Applied Theatre in 2022. Her PhD research explores the ethics of theatre projects conducted in Greek island refugee camps.
